The 97th Academy Awards, also known as the 2025 Oscars, took place on a very special night that celebrated the biggest movies from 2024 and the incredible people who brought them to the big screen.
There were 23 categories at this year's Oscars and no film won more than Anora. Alongside taking home the honor of Best Picture, Anora also won Best Director, Actress in a Leading Role, Writing (Original Screenplay), and Film Editing.
Close behind Anora was The Brutalist, as it won three awards, including Actor in a Leading Role, Cinematography, and Music (Original Score). Emilia Pérez, Wicked, and Dune: Part Two were the only other films to win multiple Academy Awards.
Other highlights from the night included a stunning opening performance by Wicked's Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, Emilia Pérez's Zoe Saldaña winning the Oscar for Actress in a Supporting Role and being the first American of Dominican origin to accept an Academy Award, and Paul Tazewell becoming the first Black man to win the Oscar for Best Costume Design.
